Comity «The Journey Is Over Now»December 8th 2011 • 2xLP, CD, Digital • THRT015

The Journey Is Over Now shows a band more ruthless and musically ambitious than ever before. Four tracks delivering 52 minutes of an oppressive but finely worked chaos : a maze of winding riffs and unique melodies. Recorded and mixed between Laval and Paris by sound sorcerers Amaury Sauvé & Sylvain Biguet, mastered by Carl Saff, this fine-cut monolith of darkness shows a band in constant soul-searching and who has been able to push their art in ways they never would have dreamed possible. Exhausting in their ability to bring fluidity and atmosphere to their extremely dense compositions, "The Journey Is Over Now" reminds that COMITY is, more now than ever before, a band impossible to pigeon hole. This is extreme rock'n roll, and nothing else.

Elizabeth «Where Vultures Land»March 3rd 2012 • 12"EP, Digital • THRT018

“Get in the van” as a leitmotiv; ELIZABETH is one of those bands that have understood that the strongest reputations could be only built on the road. Thus, this last year, their home-recorded demo has been enough to let them travel through the whole Europe and shared nearly forty stages with the upper crust of european hardcore/punk. With“Where Vultures Land”, their debut EP, these swiss carve their way into the heaviest and most intense branch of their scene, alongside of bands such as Converge, Rise And Fall or The Hope Conspiracy. Twenty minutes played with a constant energy, which is demultiplied by the unmerciful rusted vocals of Javier (with an heavy burden in the matter as an ex-Nostromo). More than enough to one of the most promising bands of the european scene, now you’re warned.

As We Draw «Split»January 11th 2012 • LP, Digital • THRT016

Nearly one year after AS WE DRAW's first album "Lines Breaking Circles" which propel them into the rank of the biggest european outsiders of their style, the young princes of french post-metal are back to punish everybody once again with these two tracks, more muscular and tighter than never before. Five-stars songwriting, outrageous emotional power and contagious anxiety, this is caviar filled with cyanide. EUGLENA are coming from the red nation but could have come from the pink city; the hardcore from russians Euglena is as dissonant as buzzing, not so far from the know-how of toulousians I Pilot Daemon & Plebeian Grandstand. These three tracks are a good session of revigorating apnea, slower and dirtier continuation of their previous EP "An Anxious Surface". Danish butchers HEXIS throw hardcore, black metal, sludge and blast beats in the most epic and brutal way. If their first eponymous EP has already teared a strip off some people, "Crux" and "Nex" are following the going-over by stepping up their urgency and helped by a nauseous as-fuck sound.

The Rodeo Idiot Engine «Fools Will Crush The Crown»August 30th 2011 • LP, Digital • THRT014

We’re not all born under same stars. While some grow up in utter and shitty boredom in a peaceful suburbean house, others come into being in a world where one diverts himself by releasing bulls in the streets and where the quick words for diplomacy are “ETA”. And this inevitably affects psychological development. The Basque of THE RODEO IDIOT ENGINE are the most obvious living proof or so to speak of this and after a first EP in 2010 (” The First Fall”) which had already triggered two European touring escapades for them and a wheelbarrow of first parts (Nadja, Kruger, Celeste…), the quintet climbs few stages in musical extremism with their first album “Fools Will Crush The Crown”. 28 minutes of brain drying which quite matches in brutality with The Chariot adding the close to epileptic technical patterns of The Dillinger Escape Plan in their beginnings, as much as the intensity of Shora most chaotic period mixed with the all-reaching over-achieved blackness of Celeste.

Plebeian Grandstand «Split»September 9th 2011 • LP, Digital • THRT011

Three bands, three different interpretations of hardcore/punk, two continents, one policy: Destroy. BONE DANCE (Boise, Idaho, USA) doesn't want to be your friend. The nihilism you'll hear from these self-described "five loud dudes with shitty attitudes", playing their exceedingly raw brand of chaotic hardcore/sludge, will ring a bell whether you're into Gaza or Ken Mode, Botch or Cursed. Conceived with a colossal sense of brutality, yet never forsaking their punk ethos, "West" and "Conniver" will further consecrate this band as one to watch. Remember this goddamned name. No matter how paradoxical it may seem, DIVIDER (Long Island, New York, USA) would prefer to unite rather than to divide. Uniting the sound of more modern filthy hardcore bands with a strong sense of punk emergency, these two tracks ("Gaia" & "Halios Geron" ) introduce Chris Tzompanakis behind the mic, best known for his work with the influential group Skycamefalling in the early 2000's. If you're into Deadguy, The Power And The Glory or Vision Of Disorder, you've found the perfect soundtrack for your next bare-knuckle boxing match. As for PLEBEIAN GRANDSTAND (Toulouse, France), if the shrapnel-laden assault that was "How Hate Is Hard To Define" had you asking for more, this time around there won't be any survivors left to beg for a rematch. If the explosion of screaming and distortion that is "Woe Is Me" isn't enough, then the hallucinatory "Woe Is You", with its Neurosis inspired, trance-like drums, and a throbbing bassline that builds to a crescendo which threatens to tip the richter scale, certainly will be. The first time I heard these tracks, I felt like ripping off my eyelids. And I won't be the one.

Nesseria «Split»September 3th 2011 • LP, Digital • THRT013

CLINGING TO THE TREES OF A FOREST FIRE are without a doubt one of the most apocalyptic bands these days : between blackened grindcore and filthy sludge, these four tracks are the perfect blend of all the most extreme stuff you could find. For fans of Today Is The Day, Robinson, Admiral Angry, Khanate... On the other side, NESSERIA is delivering here their best material to date, still as intense and pissed than on their previous full-length, but in a dirtier and more complex way. For fans of The Secret, Buried Inside, Cursed or Trap Them.

The Phantom Carriage «New Thing»April 9th 2011 • CD, Digital • THRT012

"Musical open-mindedness turns to a plague only when one have shitty taste", once said the prophet. You guess that's not the case with THE PHANTOM CARRIAGE, who dare to assemble, in a total presumptuousness, the jazz-tainted black metal of Deathspell Omega, the technical yet suffocating chaos of Comity, added to their Orchid-esque experience in Taciturn. For now way more loquacious than with their last embodiment, these five too bipolar butchers will be delighted to smash your cortex with their receding riffs and vicious throat scrapings. "New Thing" may just be their first offering, this porky half-hour may make a lot of their peers look elsewhere.

Huata «Atavist Of Mann»February 2nd 2012 • 2xLP, Digital • THRT010

Satan's disowned children are once again slipping on their hoods and frocks to give birth to one of the dirtiest and heaviest sludge/doom record of recent times. Acclaimed here and there, their previous EP "Open The Gates Of Shambhala" was our first release and allowed them to inflict tinnutus and stiffness while opening for Electric Wizard, Ramesses and many more. Now we're proud to introduce you to "Atavist Of Mann", the debut album from Brittany's own HUATA. 60 minutes as a giant middle finger to modernism : recorded in the middle of nowhere by Kristian Keyboard Production, this slow procession of anvil riffs smoke-filled enough to make your mouth feel all furry, of liturgical atmospheres played with Hammond organ and clean vocals singed by the devil himself will pervert the most innocent souls. Seven tracks that crown a band who has been able to go to the very bitter end of its process , musically as well as aesthetically, and a record meant to be a milestone, at least by outclassing menopause on the podium of the causes of prolapse.

As We Draw «Lines Breaking Circles»November 1st 2010 • LP, Digital • THRT007

AS WE DRAW commands pathos well – preternaturally even – With a release of this caliber, they can stand as a more introverted Buried Inside or Union of Uranus; Lines Breaking Circles thinks first, but rather than allow its obvious mechanical ability act as middleman, produces a mulled outlook second. We know this is to be felt because its been felt for so long and in so many different ways between the album’s writing and our listening to it. If you were conflicted with Lucky Me like I was, then this is undoubtedly its antithesis. Interplay between all of the strings is wisely integrated into the affect of the disc, and it’s that understatement that keeps momentum strong over other bands’ tired impulse to draw obvious lines around their layers. It’s my hope that this will be a sleeper hit in the way that Chronoclast was, reminding us that emotion-driven heavy music is vital and not contracted to the whims of a fickle scene. (Hearwax Media)

Birds In Row «Cottbus»February 28th 2011 • 12"EP, Digital • THRT008

Cottbus bulldozes over you without looking back. Seven songs go by and your speakers are left drenched in sweat. The production is huge. The guitar tone is warm, the drums sound organic and the vocals are distorted. Still there's such an oomph to this whole affair that immediately - even though tempting - comparisons with impressive European "screamo" acts feel uncalled for. So I won't go there. But keep it mind. Cottbus applies pressure on you. The only respites from all the rage is the intro-like "Among The Ashes" and "Outro". Everything else booms and crashes in a heartfelt and beautiful fashion. (Halifax Collect)

Nesseria «Self-Titled»June 2nd 2009 • LP, Digital • THRT006

If you are new to NESSERIA, prepare to be possessed by one of the most raging slabs of creative metal you’ve heard in a while. Their self-titled album takes you on a demented 30 minute rollercoaster through madness. The opener ‘A Ceux Qui Nous Ont Laches’ flys out like a demon escaping from hell. Churning guitars and blastbeats mix with dire vocals full of pain. This is not a pretty song. This is not a pretty album. And that’s why it’s so damn good. (Dawn Of The Deaf)
